Universities Renew Their Love Affair with White House Officials for Commencement

Universities Renew Their Love Affair with White House Officials for Commencement
Source: Young America's Foundation

This year, the 17th annual Young America’s Foundation commencement speaker survey has revealed that the nation’s top 100 universities as determined by U.S. News & World Report are clamoring to give officials from President Barack Obama’s administration and other left-wing talking heads one last chance to indoctrinate graduating students with leftwing ideology.

Our research indicates that Bush administration officials spoke on the nation’s leading universities 14 times throughout his entire time as President. Obama administration officials spoke nine times just in 2010 – that’s more than half the number of Bush officials that spoke in eight years.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg. This year’s research found that a myriad of speakers were not only White House officials, but also liberal ideologues, newsmakers, authors, and entrenched Washington insiders, while conservative best-selling authors, business leaders, and free market Nobel laureates were once again absent from our list.

Some of the nation’s most familiar liberals will be making appearances at the nation’s leading institutions. Harvard, the number one school in America, is welcoming Justice David Souter to speak, a former member of the U.S. Supreme Court. Yet again, Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Samuel Alito, and Justice Anthony Scalia did not make appearances at any commencement ceremonies on our list.

Despite House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s dismal favorability ratings (she has only 11 percent favorable according to a recent CBS News poll), she was the “speaker” of choice at Cornell University for senior convocation.

Commenting on the annual study, Young America’s Foundation President Ron Robinson explained, “This year the trend proves that just as the media has been in love with Obama, so have America’s universities.”

Failure, that's a horrible word to use at the start of an article. But that's essentially what this article is going to be about and, more specifically, why (some say) internal collaboration tools within law firms are doomed to fail. However, failure can also be useful in understanding how tools such as intranets, or collaboration tools like Confluence, are used and what could drive future projects to success.

The discovery that Bloomberg News journalists have been making use of customer data raises broader privacy issues. Associated Press has complained about secret use of its telephone records by the United States Justice Department and the British polling organisation Ipsos MORI has been exposed trying to sell anonymised data from the mobile phone service EE to the London police. How effective is anonymisation, should internet service providers shield user data from the authorities and are some websites’ privacy notices designed merely to protect the providers?
