This edition of Trends & Tudes focuses on a study commissioned by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK), and Lumina Foundation for Education through the KnowHow2GO campaign to give voice to the perspectives of 7th and 8th graders on such topics as current school experiences and expectations for high school and beyond.

Dana Markow, Vice President of Public Affairs and Policy Research at Harris Interactive, comments, "The middle school years are a time of a major developmental shift, the first of several steps toward adulthood, and can sometimes be a confusing time for youth. To be in middle school is to be caught in between being a child versus a full-fledged teenager and all the while they are learning the fundamentals to be able to embark on more advanced studies. How these youth learn to handle social situations influences the kind of person they grow up to be, and the character of their participation in society."
